AVERAGE DENSITY ESTIMATORS: EFFICIENCY AND BOOTSTRAP CONSISTENCY

چکیده
This paper highlights a tension between semiparametric efficiency and bootstrap consistency in the context of canonical estimation problem, namely problem estimating average density. It is shown that although simple plug-in estimators suffer from bias problems preventing them achieving under minimal smoothness conditions, nonparametric automatically corrects for this that, as result, these seemingly inferior achieve conditions. In contrast, several “debiased” conditions do not those same

Consistency of Robust Kernel Density Estimators
The kernel density estimator (KDE) based on a radial positive-semidefinite kernel may be viewed as a sample mean in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space. This mean can be viewed as the solution of a least squares problem in that space. Replacing the squared loss with a robust loss yields a robust kernel density estimator (RKDE). Previous work has shown that RKDEs are weighted kernel density estim...
متن کاملWeighted Uniform Consistency of Kernel Density Estimators
Let fn denote a kernel density estimator of a continuous density f in d dimensions, bounded and positive. Let (t) be a positive continuous function such that ‖ f β‖∞ < ∞ for some 0 < β < 1/2. Under natural smoothness conditions, necessary and sufficient conditions for the sequence √ nhn 2| loghn | ‖ (t)(fn(t)−Efn(t))‖∞ to be stochastically bounded and to converge a.s. to a constant are obtained...
متن کاملConsistency of orthogonal series density estimators based on grouped observations
The aim of this note is to indicate that nonparametric orthogonal series estimators of probability densities retain the mean integrated square error (MISE) consistency when observations are grouped to the points of a uniform grid (prebinned). This kind of grouping is typical for computer rounding errors and may also be useful in data compression, before calculating estimates, e.g., using the FF...
متن کاملStatistical Topology Using the Nonparametric Density Estimation and Bootstrap Algorithm
This paper presents approximate confidence intervals for each function of parameters in a Banach space based on a bootstrap algorithm. We apply kernel density approach to estimate the persistence landscape. In addition, we evaluate the quality distribution function estimator of random variables using integrated mean square error (IMSE). The results of simulation studies show a significant impro...
متن کاملM-estimators and their consistency
M-estimators and their consistency This handout is adapted from Section 3.3 of 18.466 lecture notes on mathematical statistics, available on OCW. A sequence of estimators T n , one for each sample size n, possibly only defined for n large enough, is called consistent if for X 1 , X converges in probability as n → ∞ to a function g(θ) being estimated. We will consider consistency of estimators m...
